Graduate Assistantships

Graduate Assistantship (GA-ship) positions are available in various departments and units across the Delta State campus each year. These opportunities provide students an excellent chance to gain experience in their chosen field while continuing their graduate education. Assistantships provide a tuition stipend in exchange for a commitment to work 15-27.5 hours per week (depending on position) for the University. With over 60 slots funded each year, GA-ships are extremely competitive.  Students in online programs are eligible, but GA work must be completed on campus and in Cleveland.  Students must be full-time in order to qualify to work as a GA.

GA Positions

Handshake, an online portal managed by the Office of Career Services, is also used by departments to post available Graduate Assistantship positions. Select the button below to register an account, or login to Handshake.  Be sure to search for GA-ship position titles containing “GA,” “Graduate Assistantship,” or “GA-ship.”  GA positions will typically be posted in June/July each year.

GA Contract

Once a graduate student is selected for a GA position with a University department, a Graduate Assistantship packet must be completed by both parties. The completed contract is due to Academic Affairs (academicaffairs@selenaumbrella.net) prior to the start of the semester. The packet includes tax documents and online training certifications, as required by Human Resources. International students are eligible for GA positions as long as they can provide a Social Security card and F1 documentation. New students should fill out the complete packet. Returning students should fill out the first page only.

GA Timesheets and Evaluation

Graduate Assistants are required to complete monthly timesheets.  All timesheets must be signed by the student and the supervisor, and are due to Kendra Whitehead (academicaffairs@selenaumbrella.net) no later than the fifth working day of each month.
